CoastWord is excited to offer a Kids Festival Weekend this year, with the support of Creative Scotland and BeGreen Dunbar, we are delighted to offer two days of stories and music for the children of Dunbar and surrounding areas. On Saturday the 8th June we are putting on a fun packed day of events at Dunbar Townhouse and on Sunday the 9th June we are are on the road to Spott and Innerwick. Please note that the family pass does not include access to the Acting Up workshop due to the capacity of this event.

Ella is a puppeteer and maker. Have you ever met a fairy? They’re shape shifters and mischief makers! Puck is the youngest and cheekiest of the fairies. How will he react when the Fairy Queen takes in a human baby? Following the show come and chat with Ella about featured in the show, learn about how they work and how they’re made. Have a go and help bring them to life! An intimate and hands-on experience suitable for all ages.
All the way from West Barns this fun trio run a paired reading project in West Barns Primary School and have been affectionately nicknamed the Gangsta Grannies! Highly entertaining join the grannies for stories and antics as they read from David Walliams – The World’s Worst Children.
Come and stretch your imagination with local Drama Facilitator Kelly Thacker. Kelly is a specialist in community theatre and delivers drama workshops in East Lothian. Join Kelly for an inspiring introductory drama workshop, there will be energetic drama games, dancing, improv and heaps of fun.
Top class entertainers Ron Fairweather and Fergus McNicol work together as Macastory delivering themed storytelling into schools, libraries and festivals all over Scotland. Join them for a hilarious, loopy, historic story that will involve antics, nonsense, song, drama and joining in. For all ages!
Tinderbox aims to ignite a spark in young people – one which fills them with confidence, imagination and sense of possibility. Tinderbox is a diverse collective of young people, musicians, artists and volunteers. Join in with songs you’ll know and songs you’ll learn, at our sing-a-long! Singing songs on guitar, from Scottish children’s songs to much loved pop songs, there will be something for everyone… and a big box of exciting instruments to help raise the roof!
If you go down to the woods today – you might find Chis Yule of muddy buddy fame along with his muddy crew. Chris is a professional and passionate storey teller and is also the founder of muddy buddies which is all about outdoor play. For today we are joining Chris in the Townhouse, come and listen to some of his terrific Scottish tales, this will be a memorable story telling event. Feel free to bring a teddy and a friend or two.
Imagine you are in a deep sleep in a snug warm bed, your alarm goes off and minutes later you’re out at sea in the dark off to rescue someone who has run into trouble. This is what our local heroes from the life boat crew have to do. Not only are they in the business of saving lives at sea they are excellent story tellers too and will be joining us today to read stories of the sea from Julia Donaldson’s, The Snail and the Whale and Tiddler – so don’t be late!
Come and start the day with a relax kids storey & poetry session with Emma Vance. Emma is a Relax kids mindfulness coach and delivers sessions in and around Dunbar, she is currently running a programme for active schools. Teaching young people simple mindfulness techniques can help them improve focus, confidence and self-belief. Come and listen to some wonderful stories and leave feeling refreshed and ready to seize the day!
